Food for Families

Even as Florida’s economy shows signs of recovery, countless families in our communities still face food insecurity. Many local pantries report seeing former donors now seeking assistance themselves, highlighting a growing need.

Florida Knights have been responding in significant ways:

  • In the past year, councils collected over 250,000 pounds of nonperishable food and donated tens of thousands of dollars to school pantries, soup kitchens, and parish-based food programs.
  • Creative initiatives like “40 Cans for Lent”, Thanksgiving/Christmas basket drives, and weekend backpack programs have served families statewide.
  • In Southwest Florida, councils stepped up during Hurricane Ian relief efforts; in North Florida, they supported rural pantry replenishments.

Monetary donations are especially impactful—enabling food banks to purchase exactly what’s needed—and thousands of volunteer hours have been donated sorting food, staffing events, and delivering aid.

“Catholic men ‘have a duty to protect families,’ most especially the widowed and orphaned,” said Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly, urging Knights to respond to today’s challenges.
